Image: ScKA The new operations center for the Emergency Services of Basel will be an addition to an existing operations building of the municipal fire department in Basel. The formally irregular shape of the new building results from given functional and zoning regulations and condenses these conditions into a singular form. The shift of the new to the existing building is used by a slightly set back ribbon of windows. The new building seeks to intensify existing conditions and already used materials to gain embedment into its surroundings. Paradoxically, the at first sight strange irregular form supports this aim in a self- evident manner.    Image: Maris Mezulis |
